GRANT LEAVER LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND AT SUNTRUST STATE OPEN
(Nashville, TN) Grant Leaver fired an opening round 65 (six under par) to take the first round lead at the 60th Annual SunTrust State Open Championship presented by Coca-Cola which is being conducted at Gaylord Springs Golf Links in Nashville. Leaver's round was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par-3 14th hole which played 210 yards in today's round. Leaver, who is from Centerville, plays collegiately at Austin Peay State University.
Leaver has a three-shot lead over Eric Lee (Nashville) who is at 68 (three under par). Eight others are tied for 3rd place at 69 (two under par). Players who competed in the morning wave had lower scores as strong winds picked up in the afternoon and caused scores to rise. Today's overall average score was 75.5 strokes.
The SunTrust State Open Championship presented by Coca-Cola is one of Tennessee's oldest and most prestigous championships. The event annually pits the state's top amateurs and professionals against each other to determine a true state golf champion. The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after tomorrow's second round.
