30th Tennessee Women’s Senior Amateur Championship
The Links at Kahite: Day1

Six time defending Women’s Senior Amateur Champion, Maggie Scott of Charleston has already made her mark on the first day at the Links at Kahite with shooting a 74. Scott’s birdie, on a 410 yard par 5, helped put her in the lead of today’s competition. This officially puts Scott one step closer to reining almost an ENTIRE DECADE as the winner of the Women’s Senior Amateur Championship. Will this be the year that Scott seals anotheranniversary? Tomorrow’s results will help unfold this story.

Lisa Daubner, of Cleveland, is right on Scott’s heels, finishing with today’s second lowest score, 76. Daubner also birdied the same 410 yard hole, yet had a few more bogeys that will keep her in the second place seat as of today. Daubner and Scott also share the same home course, the Cleveland Country Club, leaving spectators to wonder, what are they putting in the water over at the Cleveland course?

Claiming the current third place post is Linda Post, of Brentwood. Post shot a 77 including a birdie on the front and another one on the back nine. Today’s score she posted will categorize her into the championship flight where she will compete for the coveted silver Women’s Senior Amateur Champion trophy, given in honor of the late Ms. Connie Day.

Tellico Village’s Links at Kahite has proved to give the Women’s Senior Amateur contestants a few challenges as well. Their trip to the mountains of Tennessee has quickly turned into an impromptu vacation to the beach, with the course’s abundant 97 sand traps and blazing late summer heat. With Monday’s temperatures reaching into the sizzling high 90’s , the contestants pulled through and all finished with round one qualifying scores falling the range between 74 to 117.

After all today’s first round scores were posted, the field was equally divided into five ranking flights including a championship section. With all like scores in the same flight, winners will later be determined from the lowest six gross scores, based upon 54-hole total score. Competition will resume tomorrow beginning with the first time of 8:30 a.m.
